Caregiver Tip: “If you live far away, you can still take care of your loved ones by paying the people you trust to take care of them, or one of your family members could assist them.”
I’ve been working in the field of senior care for the last 18 years, supporting families on their caregiving journey. I am also a long-distance caregiver for my parents as I live in San Francisco and my family is back in New York.
Yes, there are many ways in which we can support our loved ones despite living long distance. We can pay the people we trust to take care of our near and dear ones, or one of your family members could assist them.
Recently, there was a tough situation wherein both my parents needed care while I was living miles away. Thanks to my brother who moved back home and supported my parents during that time.
Also, as I like writing children’s stories, I wrote a children’s book dedicated to my brother, ‘The Tale of a Hero I Know’. The protagonist in the book is my brother.
I want to mention a snippet from the last page of the book as I think it’s important for all of us to remember: “So now, you’ve learnt some heroes don’t fly, they don’t all scale buildings, they don’t all jump high. But they do have the courage to do what feels right, and help those they love with all of their might. So, give a big hug to the hero you see, coz someday it may just be you or be me.”
Here’s more power to all caregivers and seniors out there! You’re all heroes
