Caregiver Tip: You deserve to prioritize your well-being to become a better you and a better caregiver.
My mission is to share my experience, strength, and hope with other caregivers so they too can survive their caregiving journey with grace and empowerment.
My first caregiving journey began as I cared for my mom, who had dementia, and my dad, who had heart complications. Very early on, I realized that I needed to prioritize taking care of myself so that I could become the caregiver my parents needed.
The journey was overwhelming, terrifying, and exhausting. But it was when I started prioritizing my own well-being that I became a better version of myself and a better caregiver.
The most important thing that I learned was that I deserved to prioritize my own well-being. While caregiving in itself is an honor, we deserve to honor ourselves as well.
Ask for help if you think it is needed. Be in tune with how you feel. But above all, be kind and generous and loving to yourself.
To all the caregivers out there, know that you’re doing your best. I see you, and I wish you well.
Check out my website, Caregiver Warrior, and my latest book “Self-Care for Caregivers” for tips, strategies, and guidance that will show you how to care for yourself as you care for others.
