In Conversation with Cori Cobb Cranford to Bring Her Insights on Learning the Art of Home Care

When it comes to home care, there is an art to it that goes beyond providing care – it is about creating a nurturing, supportive environment that truly enhances the lives of those in our care.

That is why learning the art of home care is so crucial. It is not just about mastering the technical skills but about developing a deep understanding of every client’s unique needs and preferences. It is about cultivating empathy, patience, and a genuine desire to make a difference in the lives of others.

Home care professionals can build stronger, more meaningful connections with their clients by honing this art. They can anticipate their needs and concerns and provide beyond-the-standard personalized care.

And in doing so, they can help their clients maintain their independence, dignity, and quality of life – all while easing the burden on their families.

Ultimately, it is about creating a holistic, enriching experience that transforms the lives of those we serve. And that is the true essence of what home care is all about.

To shed some light on the same, we interviewed a home care industry expert to bring her perspective on learning the art of home care.

Who Did We Interview?

Cori Cobb Cranford is the regional director of Bluebird Homecare, which helps seniors with daily living activities in the comfort of their homes and communities. The company works with individuals and families to develop, execute, staff, monitor, and adjust care plans to meet the changing needs of aging seniors.

Let us now delve into what she has to say about learning the art of home care:

Question 1: What motivated you to start your career in the home care industry?

At the young age of 15, my father became extremely ill and required a kidney transplant. He also had to have his left leg amputated. We had then just moved to Woodstock, Georgia, from Cumming, Georgia, so we had little to no family close by and no funds.

The home health nurses would come out, and I always paid attention to them to learn how to take care of my father and better understand what was going on.

Over time, they showed me how to connect and disconnect him from his at-home dialysis treatments, what to look for regarding major sugar swings, and anything else they cared to share at that moment. From that moment on, I knew what God had called me to do.

Today, 22 years later, I strive to be the advocate and the waymaker (my family so desperately needed) for those who need help now or in the future. Whether they sign on with me or not, I still want to help in any way possible.

Question 2: How do you stay ahead of industry trends and ensure your agency remains competitive?

I do not try to remain competitive, as plenty of home care needs to go around. I often refer to other home care agencies when there is a need I cannot fulfill and they return the same courtesy.

One thing that I can say that puts me ahead of the competition is that I stay extremely active in my client’s care as a whole and not just from a home care standpoint. Staying present and active is always the key, as most referral partners do not refer to a business specifically.
More than likely, they are referring to the individual they trust the most; one who has exhibited trustworthiness, honesty, humility, advocacy, compassion, and, most importantly, dependability and reliability.

Question 3: What are the major challenges for your home care agency in your state/city?

An oversaturated market of new home care agencies.

Conclusion

Cori Cobb Cranford’s inspiring story underscores the profound impact of home care. Cori’s emphasis on active involvement in clients’ lives is a testament to the human touch that defines exceptional home care.

By prioritizing empathy, trust, and reliability, she has built a foundation for success in an increasingly competitive market. Her insights offer valuable guidance for aspiring home care professionals and agencies seeking to make a lasting difference in the lives of their clients.
