Insights from Elizabeth Gonzalez

Who Did We Interview?

Elizabeth Gonzalez has a wealth of experience in managing and enhancing senior care services. She excels in ensuring compassionate, personalized care that honors the dignity and well-being of older adults.

Her strategic vision and commitment to excellence empower a nationwide team to deliver tailored in-home support. Elizabeth’s leadership reinforces Visiting Angels’ long standing reputation as a reliable provider of exceptional, transformative care.

Let us now delve into what she has to say about transforming home care with compassionate expertise:

Question 1: Your background in forensic case management is uncommon in home care. What made you switch, and was there a defining moment when you knew this was the right path?

My path has always been motivated by the intent to provide care. In my role as a forensic case manager, I coordinated services for my clients and that experience is beneficial in navigating home care because I am mindful of the different avenues in which individuals require assistance.

As a forensic case manager, my skills related to rehabilitation differed, however I am able to apply that experience to networking among professionals in home care.

Question 2: You’ve worked in both mental health and home care—two fields deeply rooted in human connection. What’s one lesson from mental health care that has transformed the way you lead in the home care space?

One lesson learned from working in mental health that I would share is that there is something to learn from everyone. Each individual is different and for care to be successful, it should be coordinated on an individual basis.

Question 3: As a Director of Operations, you’re responsible for the big picture, but what’s a small, everyday moment in home care that reminds you why this work matters?

The big picture is fueled by the small moments. One small aspect that reminds me why this field is so important is really as simple as treating others with kindness.

From clients to care support or office personnel, treating others with kindness goes a long way and you’re often appreciated more for listening and reacting with kindness.

Question 4: Your journey started in the mailroom, and now you’re leading operations in home care. How was the experience and what did it teach you?

The mailroom taught me responsibility and how to operate in an office setting. I learned many foundations of professionalism while working as a mailroom clerk of a community college.

Question 5: Home care is about more than just meeting needs—it’s about creating trust and stability. What’s one overlooked factor that makes a client truly feel safe and supported?

Communication and transparency are two aspects of professionalism that are often overlooked or not discussed as often as needed. Providing transparency of expectations for clients and care support allows for an establishment of understanding of both the extent and limitations of services.

Communication is vital in establishing trust with our clients. As we communicate effectively, we set a standard with our clients that allow them to establish credibility within our services. This can be as simple as calling to follow up on how services are going and inquiring about satisfaction of services. We always want to make sure that we are on the same page to avoid any confusion.

Conclusion

Elizabeth Gonzalez’s journey exemplifies how transformative leadership can revolutionize home care with compassion and precision. Her innovative approach, rooted in forensic expertise and enriched by personal empathy, redefines care delivery by prioritizing individualized support and meaningful connections.

By integrating rigorous standards with heartfelt interactions, Elizabeth has elevated the quality of care while restoring trust among clients and caregivers alike.

Her success inspires a shift toward a more human-centered, responsive model that values kindness, open communication, and transparency. As we reflect on her story, we are reminded that true excellence in home care emerges when compassion meets expertise at each step.
