    Understanding Vermont's Electronic Visit Verification

To comply with federal requirements outlined in the 21st Century Cures Act, the Department of Vermont Health Access (DVHA), in partnership with the Department of Disabilities Aging and Independent Living (DAIL) and the Department of Health (VDH), implemented Electronic Visit Verification (EVV) for in-home services funded by Vermont Medicaid on January 1st, 2021.

    Vermont State Aggregator

Sandata was chosen by Vermont as the state-sponsored vendor and data aggregator, but home providers are free to utilize other EVV systems as long as they integrate with the state platform.

Vermont's Home Care Regulations & Facts

    Do you know?

Vermont is one of the greatest states for seniors to live in and carers to work in (pays an average of $33,810 annually). In order to ensure the happiness of its older citizens and caregivers, the state controls home care providers through a number of state laws.

    • Vermont’s Medicaid programs for adults provide low-cost or free coverage for acute care, long-term care, dental, pharmacy, and, if necessary, transportation to medical services.
    • When Medicaid is the primary insurer, providers have 6 months from the date of service to submit a claim in Vermont.
    • The State of Vermont and DXC encourage the use of Electronic Claim Submission (ECS) since it is efficient, reliable, and involves the economic transfer of claims between the provider’s facility and DXC.
    • Home care workers injured in the course of their employment are entitled by law to receive from their employers or employers’ insurance companies medical and disability compensation.
    • In Vermont, home care providers are expected to comply with all state and federal rules and regulations regarding COVID-19 vaccinations, the use of personal protective equipment, and other precautions.
    • Live-out employees must be paid 1.5x their hourly rate for all hours worked over 40 in a workweek.

CareSmartz360 home care management software and GPS-enabled technology enable Vermont-based home care agencies to meet all the EVV, Medicaid Claim Submission, Caregiver Leave & Wage, and Covid-19 regulations. Additionally, the agencies can ensure that their demands for billing, care plans, and other operational requirements are met.
